Set in beautifully scenic countryside in Carrazedo de Montenegro near the Padrela mountains, the Quinta D’Alagoa is spread over 70 hectares (about 170 acres) of farm and woodland. Chestnut, olive and vine are the main crops. All produce is organically grown and certified by SOCERT, the Portuguese Organic Quality Control entity. Amidst fields and woods, the farm buildings of unusual historical and cultural value are an excellent example of rustic architecture. The old farmhouse, labourers lodgings, barn and other outhouses have been restored and adapted for agrotourism. The farm is a member of TER (Turismo no Espaço Rural – Rural Tourism Association).

“Amongst other products, this organic farm produces grapes, olives and apples and has both a modern and a traditional ‘lagar’ (wine or oil press). It also has horses, cows, sheep and goats. The Quinta D’Alagoa (www.agroturismoalagoa.com), telephone number +351 228 320 900, is an agrotourism farm with 8 double bedrooms set in various converted farm buildings of typical rural architecture. It is located about 18Km from Valpaços, in the district of Vila Real (…)”

From “Rotas e Destinos”, 3-2005

ARTICLE IN “PÚBLICO” – DAILY NEWSPAPER

“(…) yellow and green strive for dominance, in a balanced struggle to colour the mountains in dual tones. We stand at an altitude of 600 metres (…/…) Like a living museum, the farm preserves the past, yet remains open to the present (…/…) The farm house shows simplicity and discretion, as does the whole of the Quinta (…)”

From “Fugas”, a section of “Público”, 18-9-2004

ARTICLE IN “JORNAL DE NOTÍCIAS” – DAILY NEWSPAPER

“At the Quinta D’Alagoa, in Valpaços, it’s often best to do nothing. Don’t even think. Just stop. Gaze around you and wait for the impulse to walk in the woods or take part in one of the many activities this organic farm has to offer, such as viewing the local breeds of cattle. If it seems too much work, you can always keep on doing nothing! (…)”
